I don't know why this place is rated mostly as an hotel! It's a small traditional restaurant in the city center. Charming and very typical one, the escargots and the chicken of Bresse are simply amazing!! Good wine list even if it's a bit expensive, I suggest this place in Beaune. The waiter is sometime a bit distracted and picturesque but ok!

Very good restaurant

I have stayed here several times over the past decade, while attending the Beaune Festival. The location, overlooking  the  gorgeous Place Carnot is unbeatable, though drivers will need to be on the ball to sort out their parking arrangements. The modern, stylish and spotlessly clean rooms are above a restaurant, so that's another issue resolved. The Burgundian set menu is a pre-concert tradition for us now, and the fun continues when artists return for their supper after the show. Breakfast on the square is another treat, with some of the finest croissants I have ever tasted. This is  definitely not a hotel, so don't expect zealous attention but a wonderful time is guaranteed. I feel this place is a secret joy that I really shouldn't be sharing...

My secret pleasure...

We haven't stayed in the hotel, but dined in the restaurant. After an initial confusion when they cancelled our table reservation and turned us away, we re-booked for the following night - and I have to say, we were very happy we did as our culinary experience was the best of our short holiday in Burgundy. There were 5 people in our party and everyone devoured their starters, mains and deserts. The food is as the name suggests- gourmet! Don't miss this place - there is many average, over priced restaurants in Beaune - this one is worth every penny.

Excellent restaurant

I booked two rooms at this restaurant,  online through booking.com, as our pre-booked hotel cancelled on us days before we were leaving for our holiday. With an elderly mum, and our pooch to accommodate, I panicked, but read the reviews and liked the sound of the location. On arriving in Beaune we found the le Gourmandin  really easily with our sat nav and managed to park opposite the restaurant, which was great, as we had lots of luggage. The location of the restaurant is amazing, right in the centre. The lady who checked us in didn speak any English but with my poor French we managed. We had to pay up front for the rooms, which weren't cheap, but we'll revisit that topic later, and I was a bit peeved as we hadn't seen the rooms. However she guided us up a dingy set of stairs, and my husband looked quite concerned. On being shown the rooms our concern diminished as they are decorated to a very nice, modern standard, and very clean. It is noisy, but it's the main square so you just have to take the bad with the good, as being so central we were able to walk to our choice of restaurants. A great bonus with my mum in tow. Now back to the charge, the rooms are quite pricey and nothing is included, but I am establishing that this is quite common in France. We had breakfast in the cafe next door, and then we were on our way down to Provence. This little place is great for a pit stop, and you can forgive the parking issue and even the noise, as the location is perfect, as is Beaune itself. The breakfast issue I can't get my head around, but some things you just have to swallow, right?

First Impressions, Don't Be Put Off!

As previous reviewers have said, this is essentially a restaurant with a couple of nice rooms upstairs. The rooms are smartly decorated but for 140 euros a night - it's not good value for money. Yes it is in the centre of town (Rue Carnot) but the downside of that means parking is impossible so you can park for free about 10 mins walk away but you still need to deal with luggage. Being so central also means it can be noisy if you have been travelling all day and could do with a quiet, early night - that can be difficult if there is a music festival in the park until late! The market starts early Sat morning so if staff don't mention this, your car can get caught up among the tables and be issued with a ticket. Also only being able to check-in between certain times is fine - but again if staff aren't there during those time you can waste a lot of time waiting around so you can get to your room. We didn't eat at the restaurant in the end which seemed to annoy the owners - so overall given the price I would say pass on this one.
