McGill Inn B&B is a great place to stay. My stay was 3-10 thru 3-13-20. It's a charming old townhouse turned B&B. It's also in a very convenient location just steps away from Church St.and numerous stores,bars, and restaurants of special interest to LGBTQ travellers. It's also within walking distance of The Eaton Centre. The hosts are very helpful and pleasant and run a clean and comfortable place. In addition,I found the self-serve Continental breakfast with its numerous selections to be quite excellent. Lastly the rooms are quite reasonably priced. Highly recommended. NOTE: Review written 3-24-20 when the Canadian border was closed due to Covid-19.

A Great Place

I stayed at Rose Room (2nd floor), which was surprisingly good. Room was quite clean and seems to be well managed (I stayed only one short night). Location is terrific. Very close to the downtown. A huge grocery store Loblaws is nearby.

Negatives are wifi was either weak or I was unable to connect for an extended time. In the end, I could not connect to wifi at all, which made me check out early. Restroom was to be shared, which was not a big issue. The shower facility did not have shampoo. I cannot comment on breakfast because I checked out before.

Good room

Booked from Italy, I have to say there are pros and cons. Pro, which is very convenient for the center, two steps from the subway, clean, old brick house with its style, quiet place in a side street. Conversely, rooms a little small, if you have suitcases and you are in two it gets a little difficult to manage, common bathroom, but you know, breakfast with full fridge, but with always packed bread, all self-packed, but you don 't die of hunger at all.

Beautiful large room (the blue room), very clean, very clean and enough shared bathrooms (I waited only once 10 minutes in 5 days), excellent breakfast, good location relatively close to the centre, correct price, quiet street, comfortable bed.

I'd definitely recommend McGill Inn B&B, great place, very comfortable mattress, clean and located in a quiet area just walking distance from downtown.

I live in Waterloo and normally I need to visit Toronto for a day or two only. This place really did the job for a fair price.

I definitely will stay again in McGill Inn B&B in the near future :)

Highly recommended for short stays!

I stayed for 5 nights while taking a course a short walk away. The room was small but served the purpose considering I was out all day. The kitchen was stocked with more than enough food at all times and a short walk takes you to the grocery store nearby. Ergin, the owner is friendly and on top of keeping things tidy. I would stay again

Good place to stay while downtown

We stayed as a mum/daughter trip for 3 nights as part of our Canadian trip.
The B&B reviews were mixed so we were unsure what to expect.
Positives - very good communication before arrival with super info in how to get to the B&B, breakfast was help your self style and very fresh. No hot food other than toast. But was ok. 

Negatives - the room had no easy natural ventilation, white room was near the breakfast room and the stairs so noisy in the morning. There were no instructions or welcome to the room, I think the host replenished breakfast bowls and food but never made a point of saying hello. Very impersonal. I think we saw him one morning!!

The house is old but needs a bit of TLC in my opinion, like a hole in the stairs that need repairing, a seat to allow you to easily get shoes on and off at doorway would be useful. 

Overall it’s a you get what you pay for, it’s a good location, Loblaws supermarket very close - very good, and easy to walk in to the centre. 

My one big issue was a woman coming in to our room in the middle of the night - not sure why, but she freaked us out, walked in and said oh I thought someone else was in here! Very mysterious and quite funny now but at the time a real scare!!!!! 

Small room, good location.

Choose this hotel if you want to stay in a quiet neighborhood but close to the center.Their breakfast is super. The bed is comfortable and large.Of course, it is a budget hotel and the luxury of waiting for a hotel does not make sense.But everything is clean and cozy and the city center is 5 minutes away.

city vacation

We had chosen this B&B for our stay in Toronto since we were there in 2016. The location is still very good. You can walk to and from everything. Unfortunately, parking is difficult there, despite parking permits. The rooms haven't changed and nothing has been done since then. Unfortunately, some of them saw relatively large cracks on the walls/ceiling. The breakfast was typical. Since it was very cold and the door to the yard wasn't locked properly, it was a little cold in the kitchen. We would book it again because of the location.

Very central B&B

This is a small ramshackle Victorian (haunted house-esque) near Ryerson University and a block from the College underground stop with maybe nine rooms on four tight floors (one below ground), a small, rather barren common room off the front door and a cramped kitchen with a table that seats six. The selection of breakfast foods -- cereals, small yogurts, various breads, fruit, juices, peanut butter -- is abundant, but you may not get a seat at the table.. Someone mysteriously replenishes these daily; we were in and out but first saw the proprietor on day 4 of 5.  He is nice, and accommodating about raising the heat when requested, but there is no sense of hospitality at this establishment.  Our "White" room had an attractive renovated private bathroom off a sparsely decorated bedroom -- clean, but low ceilings and small.  He obviously has never stayed in that room, as when you sit in the one chair at the small table you can work at, a ceiling vent just a few feet above sends a cold north wind down your spine. Likewise, standing at the sink in the bathroom, recessed ceiling lights are behind you, throwing your face in shadow when you need light to apply makeup or to shave.  Its mirror is too small for two people to stand in front of, and there is no counter space to place toiletries, just a pedestal sink.  Clearly, no one in charge has thought about a guest's practical and domestic needs or a traveler's desire for some social comfort.  Everyone around the kitchen table laughed as if we found ourselves in a strange place and bizarre situation abandoned by the proprietor.  And he demands payment for the entire stay upon making the reservation weeks or months in advance, so when there, he neither needs to see us -- leaves a note on the front door as to how to get in --  and we can't get out of this disappointing accommodation.
