We wanted a room with balcony as the weather was nice during our 5 day stay, so we booked the Destille, as they seemed one of very few places that could offer it. We got a room with a huge patio that even had 2 loungers and a table and chairs. The room itself was large with a clean, modern bathroom. Very nice. There's a lift to take you to the upper floors and they provide secure private parking for cars (at a cost I presume). The buffet-style breakfast had a good variety of bread/rolls/cheeses/meats/yoghurt/fruit/salad/eggs/jams etc. There is an interesting feature in the basement of this establishment - a Jewish bath dating back hundreds of years. Interesting guided tours were available 12-2pm I think. The location of the Destille suited us very well - in the old town, next to an old tower, opposite a lovely park and down the hill from the large beautiful church. On the other side of the hill, less than 5 minutes walk is the old town (Altstadt) bridge where you can walk across to the Polish side. No border checks. Pretty cool. There are tons of beautiful restaurants near Destille, you're really spoilt for choice. We also tried their own restaurant which was very good.

Our top pick in Goerlitz

The distillery is located in the old town,about 5 minutes from the Polish border,the rooms are good,the bathroom is new,the breakfast was varied.What is important to note is that the check-in times are identical to the opening hours of the restaurant,here you will also get the keys.We would have almost read about this information.We were only 2 nights here,we felt very comfortable.It was fun to discover Görlitz.

Good old town location

Pension Destille is a renovated destillery. The corner room we had was large and sunny when the sun was out. We haven't encountered any uncomfortable German beds, but this one was roomier and more comfortable than usual. We enjoyed the simple breakfast of a variety of breads, cheeses, and cereal. The Pension was a short walk away from the main sites in the Old City. We were used to easily getting to accommodations by public transport on our travels...this wasn't as convenient, but a quick taxi ride to the Bahnhof wasn't that expensive and well worth it. Also, if one has trouble climbing stairs, choose another guesthouse. Destille also has a good dinner menu, but because I don't eat meat, we chose to only have their lovely soup and salad one night.

A Unique Pension

The only things that saved this hotel from being rated as Terrible, were the cleanliness of the room, the coffee pot in the room, and the location.  When we first arrived at the hotel at about 1630, we saw that it was under construction with scaffolding surrounding the entire building.  We tried opening the doors--which were locked--and rang the bell, but the hotel seemed completely closed.  We had to drive down the street to get a good signal on our cell phone, but then no one answered the phone to the hotel, either.  We called the company via which we booked the hotel, who did get through to the owners.  They said they would meet us at the door--no apologies from either the booking company or the owners.  There is no specific entrance to the hotel and no check-in desk. (We had to lock and unlock a side door whenever we left the hotel).  The owner took us up the back steps, which were cluttered with chairs, bottles, etc, to our room.  The room was nice enough and clean, but freezing!  We turned the radiators up as high as we could, but it was still freezing.  The bed was uncomfortable--too soft.  Although the booking company advertised free wi-fi available throughout the hotel, there was no wi-fi anywhere.  There was no telephone in the room, either.  If something would have happened during the middle of the night and we needed help, we had no idea how we would have contacted the owners. The owner told us breakfast was served starting at 0800, but when we got there at 0805, the doors were locked.  We decided to go out and do some sight-seeing and came back at 0930 for breakfast, which was a plate of meat and cheese and a basket of bread.  Needless to say, we were very disappointed and would not recommend this "hotel."

Almost Terrible

A good value Pension in the old town (easy walking everywhere). Friendly service and staff. Excellent breakfast. This is not a 'modern' hotel, but the room we had was huge and comfortable. There was an honesty fridge with beers for a good value €1.50 each :-) We came by car and found free on street parking nearby fairly easily. The restaurant is also pretty good - with excellent service.

Excellent Pension in old town

Stayed at Pension Destille in Görlitz for 3 nights.  Had a comfortable room within walking distance of the main sites of Görlitz and over the river to Poland.  Great town to visit with all the restored buildings.  Ate in the restaurant in the Pension one night which was fantastic.  A very friendly family run hotel.

Great Hotel

Pension Destille was a delightful surprise.  Terrific, clean, small hotel in a great location in Gorlitz; easy walking distance to the tourist sites.  Room booking comes with a breakfast the next morning, which was outstanding.  Had dinner in the restaurant as well and it was absolutely terrific.  Hard working small group of people make sure you enjoy your stay.  Highly recommend it if you are going to Gorlitz.  Hotel also has a unique addition; centuries-old Jewish bath in the basement.  Hotel is expected to be expanded soon.

Fabulous small hotel with outstanding  restaurant

We were in this boarding house at the end of our trip. Görlitz is a great city that is worth visiting, and the boarding house was one of the best accommodations we ever had. It is close to the Nikolaiturm and is easily accessible by tram and bus from the train station. In fact, two local students were happy to show us the way from the train station. What a great reception they prepared for us in their city! However, the city is not so big, and we ended up with our suitcases at the train station. Our room was large with a courtyard, and the bathroom in our room was huge. Very clean, the service was excellent, the price was very good. The breakfast was also very good. The boarding house was very well prepared. The Jewish family had a cellar, and we would like to stay here again in the 14th century, especially if you want to stay in the basement of our house, and we would like to ask you if you would like to come back to the bathroom, especially if you want to stay in the basement of our house.
