First class stay in a fabulous location and friendly staff  - the room was extremely comfortable with strong wifi. Very much recommended if you are travelling in this area.
Great breakfast and a good menu for evening meal as well!
Very peaceful setting with easy access to the ferry terminal and local shops.

With family on the island , been visiting all my life which includes frequent trips to the inn for food and drinks. The location is stunning with a deserved reputation for great, fresh seafood.

However, it’s difficult to articulate what’s going on a present . This is a very different experience. Visiting at lunch time after long walk on beach , we were told it was firstly closed, then open but no lunch.

The inn was completely empty at 1pm in July which I had never seen before in my life. 

Speaking to friends on the island , it appears to be under more than one management and ownership change in last few months resulting is some very mixed and confusing experiences. Creating some doubt and concern with  locals and regular tourists . In the end we didn’t eat at the inn this trip , which is 1st time in 14 years or so. 

My advice to anyone visiting is to call in advance and seek assurances before committing.

Very confused

Tempted by the inviting description of the ‘new brunch menu served every day between 7.30 and 2.00pm’ advertised on the home page of the Polochar Inn website, we booked online and received an email confirmation. On arrival we found a gloomy and deserted restaurant. Eventually we spotted a member of staff and explained we had a reservation. His reply: “We don’t do lunch.” No further explanation or apology. The next bus back to our accommodation on neighbouring Eriskay did not leave for an hour so we were forced to shelter from the Hebridean rain in the (also empty) bar, where I told another member of staff about our lunch reservation at their restaurant that didn’t serve lunch. “Yes” was the only, spectacularly unhelpful response. Another reviewer has compared this place to Fawlty Towers. I concur, except that it wasn’t even funny. Avoid at all costs

Had a lovely meal here last night. We had booked but arrived 30 minutes early and were asked if we wanted to eat straight away as it was no problem, which we did. Food arrived quickly and was excellent as was the service and friendliness of the staff. We have been here before and have never had any reason to complain and will definitely be back next time in South Uist.

Great experience

Never got there, they cancelled our booking on the morning of the day we were due to arrive without any reason being given.
We managed to rearrange our travel plans but it could easily have left us without accommodation or the time to get off the island.
Subsequently heard from locals of other poor reports of this hotel.
Would not book again or recommend to anyone else.

Cancelled booking with little notice

We had a wonderful evening meal in the restaurant and can honestly say it was beautifully cooked and one of the best we have ever had.  Our son pushed the boat out and ordered the lobster.  It was superb.  He's had it in other places and says he now understands what all the fuss is about.

Magical setting, lovely welcome from owner and stunning meal.

Arrived here after ferry cancellation. Mangala the manager, Kirsty on the bar and Emmanuel in the dining room are an asset to the establishment truely a perfect example of what great hospitality is! From what I observed they not only went above & beyond for me and my dog but every other person who was in the hotel whether it be guests or just in for a meal.

The food the chef sent out to my table was lovely and the drink kirsty made was delicious. I will definitely return in the future in the hope it’s the same people working at the hotel as the service they provided was second to none.

Warm welcoming restaurant. Friendly staff and great food.  Chicken and Bass fish dish were tasty and wholesome. Desserts of sticky toffee pudding and cheese cake were lovely. Beers on tap as well as Uist Gin were great.

Fabulous evening

Stayed for one night in September and in a stunning location , the guy who seems to run the place is very hard working and very helpful looked like he was a bit under staffed and had to do most things himself . The food was lovely and plenty , only downside was it looked like the room hadn’t been cleaned properly , the tea coffee try was stained and dusty the shower and toilet was also very dusty but would stay again as it’s very remote and beautiful location               TIp to management   CLEAN THE ROOMS PROPERLY!
