Had a reservation for March 19, 2022. However, when I arrived they were closed for renovations. They didn't tell me anything. I had to find another overnight location. Luckily I had not paid in advance.

Disappointing

Firstly, on arrival there was no  receptionist so had to wander around to find a member of staff stood behind bar chatting. Secondly the room door was too large for the door frame. Therefore the door would not open or close without considerable effort. I could also see when passing other rooms that each rooms door was either too small with quite a large gap under the door between the carpet or too small for the door frame kind of wedged in. The room was very small considering it was classed as a twin room. It was more of an attic room with beams narrowing the height of the room. Meaning anyone 6 foot tall(like myself) or more would not be able walk around the room comfortably.  Thirdly the rooms lights did not work, the only light that worked in the room was small bathroom light. Fourthly, the bathroom toilet flush kept running and would not flush without constant attention. Overall I would not recommend staying at the Queens Head again and advise just paying that little bit more as in this case the little extra you pay makes a big difference. 

Very budget, not best quality. 

The worst night stay I have ever had in a hotel. The landlord held a disco that blared out until midnight shaking the beds (despite being told it would finish between 11-11:30). This is obviously a regular occurrence as we heard the DJ saying he would be back next week. Then the landlord proceeded to have a party with his friends loudly shouting under our room with music until 4am. When we went down multiple times to ask him to be quiet, his friends were intimidating and rude whilst he sat in silence giggling. This morning when I went to get a refund he was nowhere to be seen (and didn’t answer the phone). Not only was this horrendous but the first room we were shown had no working light, toilet or shower and unlike advertised there is no breakfast on offer.

Worst night in a hotel

Good value, great location and very comfy bed. Was out off by the bad reviews but glad we gave it a try, no problem staying here at all. Breakfast had a good selection, not a full English but all fresh and plenty of choice.

Try for yourself.

Horrendous, give this one a wide berth! 

We turned up at just after 6pm, which is after opening hours. There was nobody there and the building was shut. We had a mobile to call, this resulted in somebody coming down to check us in he was friendly enough but not accommodating - as only continental breakfast is available and not full English as advertised, we asked to have ours put by to pick up as we were checking out early but were told no. No alternative - we could easily have helped ourselves but apparently nothing available Saturday evening even though breakfast began at 7.30 the next day! 
We were left in the deserted building, 
We went out for a meal (no food or drinks available on site) upon our return - about 9pm we saw the bar was open, but when we went to order drinks we were refused  and informed it was shut even though still within licenced hours and clearly still people drinking! After some persuasion we managed to order a drink but were told to drink in our rooms!!  We had to use a phone torch in the corridor as there was no light and needed to use it to see the keyhole. The group, including the landlord left, the pub was again apparently empty, although strange, at least it was quiet so expected a good nights sleep. Wrong! At around midnight the bar opened again - apparently for friends and maybe those whose faces fitted? Extremely loud music pumped though the floor - we did think it came from outside as the pub had been shut - but realised around 2.30 am that it wasn’t stopping - I looked out into the corridor and was met with a strong smell of weed, the smoke coming from one of the nearby rooms, this raises concerns with the effectiveness of any smoke detectors which may or may not be in operation! When I saw lights downstairs and realised the music was coming from downstairs I went down and asked (not as politely as I usually would) for the music to stop. Seems this is just a place where staff can entertain their friends make a noise and come and go as they please…don’t expect any level of service or for the refurbished rooms mentioned on some reviews! The building is very tired and the rooms even more so. The only positive was cleanliness of the room. Needless to say we won’t stay again and hope never to book accommodation of this standard again! 


Why is there no zero stars option!!

Friendly staff. Disappointed with the breakfast , no English only continental. Room was not its best .

Stayed in Room 1. Spent my night awake and waiting for daylight .  There was a definite presence in the room. Footsteps, items moving during the night and shadows moving across the room. Not alcohol related either !  Not scared but felt uncomfortable.

Bit ghostly for me

Had I gone onto trip advisor and read the reviews I would not have stayed here. The staff were great but the room was dirty. Fluff and cobwebs in the window, splashes of something up the walls and mould and grime in the bathroom. But will say the linen and towels were clean Mislead with the parking & no explanation why no full English breakfast. Just a choice of value ham and cheese and unprepared fruit. The owner looked very tired which reflected in the building

Queens head

I expected better for the price. The room was dirty and had not been decorated in a long time - it was done when Artex was fashionable; back in the 1970's as I remember. Now the textured Artex on sloping ceilings just serves to exfoliate the skin of the unwary who get too close to it. There was dog hair all over the carpet and the carpet was stained. The bathroom in room 5 is pretty inaccessible with no extractor fan. The door lock is dodgy. There are mould stains on the walls. The furniture is shabby.

On the plus side, the bed linen was clean, the bed was comfortable, although the thin duvet would be cold in winter. I was grateful that my bicycle was able to be left securely inside the building. There was ample hot water when it was given time to make the long pipe run from the tank to the tap.

Two smoke alarms and a heat sensor say something but I don't like to think what.

Shabby

Had a great stay at he Queen's Head! The buiding is Stunning,room's quirky,and clean .Bar really lovely to sit in and enjoy the atmosphere.Neil the owner and staff were so welcoming , friendly, and helpful.Breakfast was great too! All this together with location,what's not to love about the Queens's Head.

Wonderful stay at this stunning pub.

Pretty awful. Radiator not working. TV could not get BBC. Very shabby furniture. Room 5. Tiny bathroom. No cooked breakfast. Website says car park but on road parking only. At 9pm struggled to park anywhere near. Would never stay here again.
