The hotel is a great starting point as it is very close to many attractions. The hotel is newly renovated. Our room was a bit cramped but it has a charm of its own. Very comfortable beds and modern, multifunctional air conditioning. Breakfast is basic but the rolls, bread and croissants were baked in the kitchen daily. The service is very polite and helpful (Katia in particular does her best to solve the problem and does it very efficiently).

Great location, lovely staff, good conditions

Rooms are ok, new furniture and clean. The location is very good, access a tad complicated. Situated in a nice building, properly restructured. Breakfast needs serious improvement in terms of quality of food and choice. Staff is ok, if somehow distant. 

Just OK

Well I can only say as it was sorry but the worst yet I have stayed on this island stayed er for a few days noise in room from other travellers through the night terrible the landing I was on a window open out to a smoking area indoors terrible I was so badly bitten by either fleas or mosquito I had to go to a doctor it cost me 100 euros in the end for treatment I told zarco all they did was move me to another room at front this look on to a club and main square noise terrible in relation to accommodation well think it was transported here from the 1940 s beds etc wiring would not be legal in England shower disgusting toilet you cannot have a no 2 you would get stuck between wall and shower a wobbly seat yet I complained and they were not interested no food stay at your peril

Don't go there

We stayed at Residencial Zarco during three days in November. It is a simple place, but it quite honest. We didn’t taka the breakfast because we rather eat something on street.

I recommend this place whether you’re intending to discover Funchal and walk around. The Zarco is located in the downtown and it’s close to everything: the cathedral, stores, museums, restaurants. From it you can take touristic buses, normal buses… you know.

It is a simple place, but it’s quite honest

It was nice, good place, close to the center, good price, Wi-fi, the only thing I didn’t like it, was the lady in the recepción, I think she doesn’t like to take the keys from the guest,if you don’t want to open the door, take the keys and that kind of things, don’t work there, but don’t make the guest uncomfortables, the rest everything good, I give you 3 stars because of that, she made me felt an annoying person, I just want to go to the room. Thanks! 

Zarco review 

Positive aspects:

Centrally located, low budget (from 22€ without breakfast) but you get what you pay for...

Other aspects :

Noisy (I had the room in front of reception so could here everything) and dull, would need some painting. 
Hard to et hot shower.


So so...

Felt like being part of a family. Very safe and secure residence and clean. Great location in the centre of town.  The hosts are welcoming. I was a solo traveller and am not sure it is so good for parents and babies unless you get a room with windows that open out

Zarco

Pros:
-best location (it’s in the centre of Funchal, no need to pay for buses to/from hotel district)
-cheap
-has all the basics
-decent Wi-Fi
-24-hour check-in desk
-friendly staff
-room cleaning every day
-hair dryer available

Cons:
-pillows are indeed weird, as other reviewers have noted. They are essentially bags of cotton wool balls inside pillow cases. Actually we thought they were fine, but just in case you’re fussy.
-terrible sound insulation. Our wardrobe shared its back wall with a neighbouring room’s bathroom. Needless to say, there was the occasional “plop”. Also your key is taken when you leave the property, so you have to ring a doorbell to get back in. Practically this wasn’t an issue but it did mean we were hearing the bell constantly, and occasionally late at night as well.
-shower had good pressure but was poorly angled...not ideal
-noisy pipes/water heater - our neighbours had a shower at 5am and it woke us up
-shelving in wardrobe would have been nice

We would definitely stay here again, for the price and location. Not for fussy travellers.
