Amazing location. You get to drive up almost to the castle and leave the car there. We were able to do an early castle tour then go back and check out. Great view of castle from our room. Shared bathroom but that wasn’t really an issue. Great breakfast. Staff friendly . Highly recommend for convenience

Ideal place to stay to visit castle

I am so disappointed and sad to be writing this review. Neuschwanstein is a magical place for me, this is my fifth visit to the castle and third stay as a guest at Schlossrestaurant Neuschwanstein. 

We stayed here overnight for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, the staff gave us attitude. It was not the warm Bavarian welcome that I remembered. The staff were dismissive and rude. It wasn’t that they did anything “wrong” per se, but they literally scoffed at our very basic requests and even rolled their eyes amongst each other when we requested help to order a taxi as we only had internet on our phones and couldn’t call. 

We would have walked (like I have every other time), but I am pregnant and we have two 30kg suitcases and hand luggage. 

I’m very upset to say that after visiting and staying here since I was 16, I won’t be returning or recommending this place as I have so many times before.

Sadly, after visiting for over 15 years, I won’t be coming back

Location was awesome!  3 * for hotel (similar to a nice hostel), however, they get 10 * for the location.  If you have a booking at this hotel, you get to drive up the mountain and get close to Neuschwanstein castle.  Also, everyone leaves after 5 pm and you have the area to yourself.  My husband and I walked to Mary's Bridge early in the morning and we were the only ones on the bridge as the sun was rising. Spectacular!  I would highly recommend this hotel for the location.  Also, we ate at the restaurant and the meals were delicious and the staff was very friendly.  We sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine and view of the castle.

Fantastic Location!

Great location if you want to be the closest to the castle (about 10 minute uphill walk on paved road).  You have a view of the castle at night from the back patio.
The rooms themselves are okay, but shared bathrooms (down the hall and a few steps) in the middle of the night for an older couple, maybe not so much.  Just something we will remember for future trips.  
There were a group of people sitting below in the patio area until about 10pm that were pretty noisy.  Not so good after a long day of travel.
Nice to have the castle area to yourself whether you are doing a walk in the evening or in the morning.
On our route the closest food was in Fussen which is just a few miles away.

Location great, rooms okay

Liked: The location is what makes this place bearable. It's so near the castle, you look up and see the turrets when you park, so it saves that monster walk up the drive. You will be less than 5 mins from the castle, to make a nice early visit for photos in the morning.

Disliked · The hotel felt more like a youth hostel. We arrived nearby around 6, and knowing that the hotel restaurant closed at 3 ish, decided to get dinner before checking in. Unfortunately I'd not spotted that they want you to check in by 5! I called the hotel as soon as I realised, so we drove straight over, luckily there is an intercom, which connected us to someone who gave a code to open a key box to let us in.
The inside is sadly lacking in any style, it's perfectly clean and functional though, just very dated and bland, pity as the outside looks so pretty. We had a room with shared bathroom as it was all that was available when we booked. It is the first and last time we ever do that!

The 2 showers and 2 toilets were again clean, but the noise of people getting up during the night, doors locking and unlocking, was a bit too much for us.
It would have been ok if the price reflected the rooms, but we have been paying around this much per night our whole road trip (£100 ish) and stayed in many fantastic places. Unfortunately this just didn't live up to the price tag.

Breakfast was quite a nice buffet, except for the flies all over the bread rolls. This was the only time we saw any staff, as non are there if you arrive after 5pm. So there's nowhere to get a drink or food at all overnight.

Great location, disappointing hotel

If staying in this hotel, we don't have to walk up to the castle Neuschwanstein and get discount for the tickets. It's only 5 min walk up to the castle. The room is nice, clean and comfortable. It is a good 3* hotel. Price value relation is very good. Only at night have to go (drive) down to town because restaurant closes at 5pm. But no problem at all. 

Great location, good value for money

It is certainly not the greatest food in Germany, but compared to the less than stellar options in the area, its good! 

We wanted a quick bite and drink before the tour. I got the Apple Strudel with vanilla sauce and a Radler. My friends both got the pizza. Apple strudel was awesome! So much different than in the States. The pizza was ok. Probably should have expected that. 

Service and setting were great, we would stop here again if we do the castle another time! 

Last real restaurant before the castle. 

We stayed here overnight since we planned to visit the castle and I saw what close proximity it was. Obviously the location is amazing and the rooms were comfortable enough. We were unable to take a taxi up even though we supposedly have access to the private road. Luckily we had stored our luggage in the hotel in Munich that we would arrive at a few days later or we would have literally had to push our suitcases up that crazy hill. When we got there we saw cars parked all over so we had no idea what was going on. Maybe the taxi driver lied to us or he was confused as well? Not the fault of the hotel at all though. The next morning we were hoping to find a taxi to take us back down to either the village or the train station but we were unable to do so so we walked yet again. The breakfast included with the hotel was nice in the morning. Overall I would recommend staying here because the price was reasonable and the location was amazing. If you don’t care to walk around the castle in the evening it’s honestly not worth it and it would be a better idea to stay in the village at the bottom of the hill. On the bottom of the hill you have a bus and a horse and carriage option for a fee. Hindsight seeing how close the hotel was I suppose we could have taken the bus and just walked down a bit, but I didn’t realize where we would be dropped off 🤷🏼‍♀️ Hopefully this review will help someone in the future or the hotel can respond with a better exclamation of transportation to get there.

Amazing location 

Booked this the same day through Booking.com on a Sunday in June. Good price, close to the castle (5 min walk up to the castle). Clean rooms, comfortable beds, awful pillows. We had a room with a sitting room, separate sleeping area and a small bathroom with shower. It felt that the hotel was recently renovated. You need to check in before 18:00 (6pm). Which is also when the restaurant closes. It was very difficult finding the hotel. Two GPSes and Google map could not get us there. Easiest way to find the place is to follow the horse drawn carriages that carry visitors up to the castle. The hotel/restaurant is right where the passangers hop off. You receceive a voucher for the castle when you check in. We went up to the castle at 9 when they opened and purchased our tickets at the castle information desk. We only had ro wait 40 minutes for a guides tour in English. Breakfast was included and was set up on our table at 08:00 when it opened. It was a simple continental breakfast. I’m a diabetic staying away from sugar/carbs and it was not much I could eat. We got value for our money and the proximity to the castle was a winner. 

Very convenient if visiting the castle

We ended up at this restaurant after our Neuschwanstein tour. The reaturant itself is very nice, well decorated with a stunning view of the castle on the tables outside and on the section with the glass roof. The staff was nice but notably kind of always in a hurry. The restaurant was full! The food was nice although a but pricey for the amounts served. We had schnitzel and veal scallops and they were both very delicious. The whole experiencewas worth it, combing the view and the bavarian feel!
