Stayed here a week for a friend's birthday. Situated in the middle of everything, but so quiet you would never know it. Rooms are clean and tidy and the pool area is a great place to relax and unwind. Great little breakfast, and 30 seconds from the supermarket. Great little place, would definitely stay again

What a fantastic hotel. Spotlessly clean, great size rooms, very helpful and friendly.  Lovely breakfast, you can have bacon & eggs, omelettes, rolls, jam, cheese, tomato & cucumber orange juice etc 

They have a medium sized, very well stocked supermarket next door 

Super pool area again spotless.

We arrived late at night to the hotel being completely shut for the night! We eventually found a note and our keys to the room left on a table. So good luck to anyone else arriving on a late flight. The room was large and very clean with an adequate bathroom although very small. We went to breakfast and we were offered bacon and eggs coffee, orange juice a roll and a yoghurt. No fruit, no salad, no cheese etc. After 3 days of being offered eggs and bacon I asked if I could have an omelette. Apart from masses of shell in it  it tasted fairly okay. The pool and surrounding areas were nice and spotlessly clean.  Our main concern was that not one member of staff spoke to us or even said Hello! We thought something terrible must have happened or that we had done something wrong! I don’t think either of these was the case it is just a very unfriendly atmosphere! Not once did any of the staff ask if everything was okay or even asked if our day was good! We had a late flight so paid 20 euros to keep our room. No one was there to leave the key with when we left so we left them in the empty reception. We left how we arrived… to an empty hotel!   I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Ignored!!!

We stayed for 10 days at the Tarra, partly because it was near to friends’ house (they live in Crete), partly due to its great location near to the beach and local amenities, and partly because of the positive reviews we’d read. 

I have to say that we were delighted with our choice. 

We had originally booked to stay in early July, but thanks to Barking Boris and his Barmy Army changing the Covid ground rules (again !!), and Ryanair cancelling our return flight (but not the outbound - cute hey ! Only have to refund half a fare, and you can’t get back …) we had to hastily re-arrange. 

Jenny at the hotel (one of the owners, we discovered) was so helpful and accommodating, in helping us to change our dates to thwart Mr. O’Leary’s money-grab; she was there to greet us when we arrived at 11pm, and even ‘reserved’ us a car park space on the road outside the hotel, helped us with our luggage, and this fabulous attention continued throughout our stay, including printing our boarding cards for the return flight. 

Tarra is a genuine family-run resort, with Jenny, her sister (sadly I can’t recall her name - sorry) and her Mum, Georgia, running the hotel and the well-stocked, reasonably-priced attached supermarket with a great friendly, cheerful and helpful attitude. 

Our rooms were spacious, modern and immaculately clean (maintained in this condition by the excellent housekeeping staff), with a small kitchenette including larder-size fridge/freezer, kettle, cafetière, cups, glasses … not enough for a 5-course banquet, but more than adequate. There was a flat-screen TV (with some English channels), with free remote control, a free in-room safe and free air conditioning - a real plus in a country with a reputation for charging extra for these facilities. 

The pool area is clean and well ordered. Tarra provides (free) good-quality pool-towels and there are Sun-beds and tables/chairs aplenty. The only downside is that (probably due to the impact of Covid) the pool-bar and restaurant weren’t available, apart from for the included breakfast. 

Talking of which,  breakfast at Tarra is NOT typically Greek. Presided over, and freshly cooked by Georgia, breakfast is more English than continental.  You can choose from orange juice (freshly squeezed), tea, coffee, bacon, fried eggs, omelette, baked beans, tomato, bread and toast - or everything, if that’s your bag.  The atmosphere is just like a big family, and it’s not unusual to see guests chatting, walking round, serving coffee and orange juice, collecting crockery …. Sound a bit odd, but it really was a good vibe. 

So would we go back to Tarra ?  Absolutely yes. 

Right now we’re torn between booking for next May or trying another Greek island we haven’t visited yet, but Tarra is definitely calling us …

Great stay at a lovely, friendly hotel

food exellant,room s very good,hotel close to beach,shops,bars.perfect.lovely family run busines wife and i have stopped at tarra quite a few times could not stay on the dates we wanted,but have already booked for next year.

class hotel.

This was our 4th stay at Tarra since 2015 and it was once again a very pleasant 2 weeks based there. The family give a friendly welcome to all their guests and are always very helpful. The accommodation is in a central location minutes walk from the village square and right next to the beach. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean and the swimming pool provides the perfect area to relax. There is an excellent choice of breakfast to be had in the morning to set you up for the day. I would highly recommend this hotel for families or couple looking for a fabulous greek holiday experience.

Another enjoyable stay at Tarra

Stayed at the Tarra during the last week of October 2019, just before seasons end. 

The accommodation and the taverna next to it are family owned and run by a Mother and three daughters. You get a very personal feeling from the service provided, don't expect polished manners and uniforms. We all felt immediately at home and very well looked after, was very nice indeed. Obviously they will be a little more rushed in high season, but can't imaging that would change a great deal. 

Accommodation is clean
Room size is good
Décor is a mix of "traditional - dark wood" and modern.
Tiny kitchen section, just a sink, one cooking ring and a kettle. To be honest though only made tea and coffee so not an issue
Swimming pool is an excellent size, especially at they only have around 22 rooms
Grass area with sun loungers is lovely.
Location is excellent. Just by the beach and surrounded by bars and restaurants.
Town is a "typical" Crete town dedicated to tourism.

The town sits on the sea and is flanked by mountains, beautiful.

Half an hour from Rethimno which is fabulous and well worth visiting
We stayed half board and came back two stone heavier :-) Breakfast choice is good, evening meals are also very good - basic home cooked food, lots of it. 

Half board was great value, especially if there's a number of you. Another family staying there (two parents and 3 children) said it probably saved them a hundred euro's a day vs eating out. 

Would I stay there again - Absolutely 

Family run accomodation - Home from Home

Apartments clean and large with good sized balconies. Family run business and you feel like you are the long lost cousins, great warmth from everyone. 
The restaurant (Georgia’s) is excellent, certainly among the best food in the town and should be represented separately on TripAdvisor.
A great place for couples and families.

Wonderful location close to the beach. Family run, spotlessly clean apartments. Bathrooms are compact but apartments are very spacious with balconies. Fabulous home cooking in the restaurant. Great pool with sun beds on the grass and a great bar seating area. Walking distance to beaches and village. Easy access to local buses to Chania and Rethymnon. Have stayed many times and will definitely go back.

Wonderful family run apartments

Despite lots of travels and hotels, even luxury ones, this is to date the best hotel I have ever visited!
Located just next to a wonderful beach, pool two steps out my hotel door with a fantastic scenery. But the most fascinating thing was the level of warm entusiastic service from the staff and owners. This was over the top nice! The food, the drinks, the cleaning and the family atmosphere was perfect! Indeed the over all best hotel experience I ever had!
