In the center of Hanoi, you can't expect anything modern. Our room was spacious. Unfortunately not barrier-free. Stairs everywhere, even the elevator doesn't bring anything but the stepping man to get to the elevator and then to get to the room. Breakfast is not tasty.

Okay, that's it.

I used to stay in this hotel a lot and was always happy. Now, unfortunately, it has become the last staircase. I booked through agoda, Twin de luxe. I got rooms inside without windows. Cleanliness leaves many questions open. I'm really angry. The hotel never offered luxury, but you could always be happy.

Warning

We enjoyed our stay at Muong Thang. The location of this hotel is convenient for visiting the local markets. There are also various shops close by for souvenirs & silk. Anh at reception checked us in & was so knowledgable about her city. She advised us of the private car service provided by the hotel & what sites we should see. Binh our driver was excellent and waited patiently for us to enjoy the sites and then drop us at the airport for our departure. Very special people in a very interesting historical city.

Lovely location & friendly welcoming staff

Hotel has good clean and spacious rooms. Near eateries - local and international food outlets. Good breakfast spread with local as well as international food. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location. 

Clean spacious rooms 

Having booked this hotel at the last minute and on Christmas Eve, I was hoping to try and settle down quietly in my room after a long day. But no, I arrive with all my overwhelming luggage and the guy at the reception, very unpleasant, asks me what I want. I tell him I booked a room for two nights at their hotel and he tells me I have not booked anything, we are complete. I am trying so hard to make him realize that I have already paid for my room, that I want my file but the guy is fully booked and I'm full, we have received a lot of it.

Horrible experience

I called the hotel to book 1 room for 1 night. They said there were only 2 rooms left. One on the 1st floor for 400k and one on the 3rd floor for 300k. I booked the room on the 1st floor for 400k and when I came to check in, they said there was somebody took that room because when they asked those people if they book the room under the name Lee (my name), they said yes. So they got the room. 
Anyway, so only 1 room left for me (of course, the one on 3rd floor). I asked them for discount and the staff agree the price 300k. I said thats not the discount. Thats what the quoted me on the phone. And they tried to deny it. They said real price is 400k. After negotiation, the staff agreed with the price 350k. But when I checked out at 9am in the next morning, another staff took me 400k. I couldn't bother to argue cause I was so angry. 
The room was horrible. It doesn't look like on the photos. The mattress is not comfortable to sleep. Fridge didn't work. Aircon was on and fan was on but I sweated. 
Not recommend to stay here. I will never come back.

Big disappoinment!

The location is really very good - food, shopping and attractions are all very well accessible on foot. Also the furnishing of the room and the kindness of the staff was fine. The only shortcoming: damn hard beds! Ps. For people who like to sleep quietly it is rather unsuitable, as the colorful street life takes place right outside the door!

Nice accommodation

We booked this hotel before our trip, turns out these photos must have been taken long time ago. The mattress is very hard to sleep. Bathroom is not so clean. And the light in our room was a big disappointment. The light was pink - not neon white light because the light was nearly out of date - and we felt like it could go off anytime. The hotel couldn't change the light because nobody was able to change at that time. We check out right at that night and luckily found a new hotel nearby way better than this place with the same price.

The only kudo for this hotel is the great location. But you could find better hotel with cheaper price by walking a couple blocks to nearby area, such as on Hang Hom street (the hotel we found to spend the night is Symphony Hotel on Hang Hom Street).

This hotel needs a renovation! 

Not only was the room a hole and dirty, a useless TV and nothing else, but it was almost impossible to sleep because the staff would chat loudly until late at night.

The worst hotel I've ever been to.

Loved the charm of this older hotel.  Friendly staff.  Clean rooms. 
All of the staff and employees were pleasant and helpful. Very tourist friendly.  
The simple beautiful charms of central Hanoi.  
Located on a side street but short walk to much that Hanoi offers. 
This was a walk up when I was there.  Air conditioned.  
If you desire the charms of old Hanoi in a central location this hotel is it.  Not a large hotel but large enough to enjoy the sights, sounds, and restaurants of Hanoi.
Highly recommended for the quality and helpfulness of the staff.
My visit to the Thang Long Hotel was in year 1992.  Yes, a long time ago.  But the memories of that trip to Hanoi linger positively.  
I did feel safe staying at this hotel.
One can stay at the big fancy stand alone hotels and just not get the real feel of Hanoi.
If I ever get back to Hanoi - the Thang Long Hotel will be my first choice.
