Room number 9.....spacious, light, warm, clean, with the most fabulous view over the harbour. We spent far more time watching that than watching the television. The shower was brilliant, loads of hot water, shampoo and body wash in little individual bottles, and large soft towels. The breakfasts were excellent, plenty of choice of cereals and everything freshly and expertly cooked to order. Lots of friendly and helpful staff, making our few days away a real treat, despite all the weather thrown at us.

Our rooms were charming, cosy, had lovely shower rooms and all necessities (bar hot chocolate!).  The staff were kind, thoughtful, friendly and considerate. Beds comfy and harbour view just lovely.  This small hotel offers a unique and distinctive experience for those seeking respite from the cloned offers of chains and conglomerates.

Charming, comfortable and convenient.

Just went for a meal. Staff were professional & attentive - not their fault the kitchen was very slow. 
Not impressed with the experience though. Vegetarian tofu curry was bland, the seafood pasta dish was tasty but badly presented & the sea bass & sauce was excellent but sitting on a stodgy mound of potatoes with a marked lack of vegetables. Couldn’t finish the desserts. Heavy & two dishes were not as ordered but I accepted mine as we’d been there for so long. Tbh I suspect we got someone else’s order. By time other dish was returned as ordered rest of us were almost halfway through our deserts. We didn’t finish all the desserts though - the apple pies were bland & dry. 
But the reason for such a low rating is the lengthy wait we had to get the main course. We fully appreciate there’s longer wait for food if you’re going to make it from fresh but if customers are going to have to wait up to an hour it’s a good idea to warn them beforehand. And when you turn up with desserts not as ordered, just apologise! An expensive mistake.

Not great. Disappointing.

Our room was lovely and the bed very comfortable but our room was at the rear of hotel so we missed out on the sea view. 

Facilities in the room were as you would expect with good wifi signal.

Would definitely revisit but would aim for a room at the front of the hotel with the sea view.

Overnight stay

Great location, food was good. Staff overall was friendly with a couple exceptions. Bed was very comfortable, room very clean. Some of the locals that frequent the bar gave a feeling of suspicion but I never felt uncomfortable. I enjoyed sitting at the bar after dinner for a couple drinks, but was never able to connect with anyone.

Charming seaside inn

My husband and I stayed one night at this charming seaside inn. We had a beautiful view of the harbour. We opened the windows and had a lovely breeze. The room is nothing fancy, but was clean and the beds were comfy. We slept extremely well here. The shower door was a bit rickety but worked fine. We'd definitely stay here again. The restaurant is also very good, especially the salmon dinner.

The food never arrived today , I checked up on it and the kitchen had closed , yes the order was not put through by the lady who took the order but was then offered soup , we ordered scampi , haggis, and mussels, it was 22 degrees. I had waited for 40 minutes for the food , I was told the chefs were cleaning and the grills were off , I said turn them back on then , no was the answer, very poor and a complete waste of my time , this was not resolved, perhaps an invite to dinner might have helped? 

Order not put through 

Another lovely stay. Pristine clean bedrooms with stunning harbour view. Perfect sunny weather made it all the better. We had an excellent dinner and cooked breakfast at The Captain's Table Restaurant - compliments to the chefs! The only wish we would have is to have better coffee in the morning.

Another lovely stay!

Friendly and efficient staff, comfortable rooms, fabulous position overlooking the harbour with lovely views over the front. Excellent food in the restaurant - the moulds are superb - and a breakfast to die for - try the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon! 

All round excellent

Went to Scotland for a wedding at Drumtochty castle, stayed in Stonehaven. The Ship Inn had a lovely atmosphere, was tremendously comfortable, and boasted a wide selection of incredible food, of which I had the fresh Salmon and the lovely Full Scottish Breakfast. I left feeling relaxed and joyous. There were ample opportunities to take walks. The staff was kind and helpful. Needed to commute via taxis to reach the castle and then return. Be prepared to call in advance on the weekends! Overall, definitely would recommend the Ship Inn and Stonehaven to anyone. Cheers!
