As many of the other reviews have stated, the location is the selling point of this hotel. You are completely surrounded by jungle and will wake up to the sounds of birds and monkeys. It really is magical.

The rooms do not have AC, which was tough for our stay as it was very hot and humid. The pool offered no respite either as the temperature was more like bath water in the heat. 

The food is nothing special - but remember that everything has to be brought in via boat. It was perfectly fine considering.

The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Overall, I enjoyed my two night stay here for all the amazing wildlife I saw - but I was glad that it was only a two night stay given that it was uncomfortable in extreme heat.

Roughing it for nature

A fantastic location, we were really immersed in the rainforest. Loved that the windows were only mesh so that the sounds of the jungle were never far away. And the monkeys daily visits to the tree outside our room was magical. Pool was great. Food and rooms were basic but more than adequate and impressive given the remote location.

A fantastic location

Booked as part of a gadventures 4 day tour and am not impressed. As others have said it is basic hostel style accommodation serving food that is between hospital and prison standard. Really poor quality and lack of variety with rice, beans and tortilla served with every meal. The staff are not friendly or helpful. The rooms are basic, nowhere to store money or valuables and whilst they are clean are not what I would expect expect for the money we paid.

Basic average place

Great hotel, in a magic location, beautiful grounds and comfortable access to the beach, nice pool, friendly staff, good facilities for going out on the water and observe the animals. Breakfast was very basic, meals buffet ok although hardly an dessert available.

Excellent hotel in Tortuguero

The hotel food is adequate. The rooms are very basic, but the location is incredible, whilst the 'eco' rooms couyld do with some serious improvements we would go there again at the drop of a hat. The Caribbean beach is only good for walking on although there is a good pool and poolside bar. However, the location for wildlife is unbeatable. This was our first two days of an unforgetable time in Costa Rica and worth every penny for the memories.

Absolutely fantastic location in the Tortuguero Park

We were shocked to discover how wonderfully remote Turtle Beach Lodge is. We took a domestic flight to Tortuguero from San Jose (highly recommend!) and landed on a small landing strip next to canals. We were met by a “lancha” (boat) driver, a hotel employee, Anselmo. My son and I were his only passengers as he drove us through the main canal and then turned onto a side canal through which we drove for at least 30 minutes. I think Turtle Beach is the most remote lodge in the area. It is situated next to the Caribbean coast and we walked along the ocean there. Anselmo knows the canal so well and he gave us a great tour, swinging the lancha in along the way to show us sights. For example, he knew where the aligátor lived and cruised near him, slowing so we could see him. He also showed us birds along the way. This, despite the fact that he cannot hear or speak, but was able to communicate with gestures! Such a kind man. All meals were included and served in a great open-air restaurant. The rooms were as advertised with the primary amenity being a ceiling fan. The rooms had screens and were open-air as well, so one hears all the amazing jungle sounds constantly. The beds and bathroom were basic and fine. The tour guide, Alfredo, lives at the Lodge and speaks English and Spanish. He was friendly and helpful as were all the hotel staff. The purpose of our visit (and actually our reason for going to Costa Rica) was to see the sea turtles laying eggs and we did! We went on a night tour and saw two females laying eggs. An experience of a lifetime. Being at Turtle Beach Lodge and in Tortuguero was like being in another world: deep in the jungle, traveling via waterways, amazing insects you only see in the jungle. I am glad we stayed at Turtle Beach Lodge versus being closer to the town of Tortuguero which is more touristy. This was a completely unique experience.

You’re in the jungle now!

My son and I spent 2 nights here as part of a tour.  The hotel is really good taking into account where it is.  Rooms are a decent size.  We were just 1 minute from the beach.  The food is really good, meal times can be pretty busy in the restaurant but work well.  The bar area is very nice, right next to the pool and has a free to use pool table as well.  We went on some boat trips down the canals by day and night which were really good despite the rain showers - the boats have waterproof coats on board for you to use which is very handy.  Interesting place to visit but be prepared for hot and humid weather! The pool is a Godsend! Very happy with our stay here.  We saw an amazing amount of wildlife going to and from Tortuguero and during our 2 night stay.   Definitely worth making the journey.  Thanks for a great time. 

Basic but decent accomodation in an interesting location. 

Situated in a wonderful place. Definitely the most interesting place til be in this area. We enjoyed it a lot and the long boatride for the center was an experience day and night. Definitely a bonus. 

The best place to stay in this area

Great place to explore Tortuguero from, we booked as part of a package with trailfinders and had tours / this section provided by G adventures and our guide Gabrielle was fantastic. Going here is an adventure in itself, arriving by boat is fun and the wildlife is amazing on the boat and walking tours. Rooms are large and comfortable but are lodge style so don’t expect luxuries! Great to sleep hearing the ocean and the noise of the animals all around. Facilities at the hotel and service was great, kids loved the turtle shaped pool and the bar service was excellent and a lovely place to sit. Agree with the plastics on the beach. Was a real eye opener to see how much is washed up and maybe provide some litter pickers and guests could help the clean up ongoing - it was a good lesson learned for our 8yo kids. Food was basic but fine for a few days, given it all has to come by boat you’re not going to get high end food without paying a massive price for it! Overall a great visit would recommend. 

Great trip and worked well with our 8 year old kids

We came here with our daughters of 3 years old and 11 months, and had an amazing time! I'm very thankful for the staff who was very helpful and always wanted to help. Our guide was amazing to adapt to our daughters.
We loved being within the jungle, with so many animals around in their habitat.
The food was good given the location of the hotel.
The room was basic, but again good given the location within the jungle.
And my daughter obviously loved the pool!
Highly recommended for a family.
