My husband and I wanted a nice getaway for the weekend for our 10 year wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed, lovely cottage, very clean and neat, loved the peacefulness of the vineyard, loved the animals walking around and owner was lovely to deal with no problems what so ever and would def come back and stay again.

Beautiful location

Has the potential to be really nice but needs a bit of work. The cottages are a quite run down and not particularly clean and not what you would expect for the price. 

We also had a strange experience regarding completing payment with an international credit card. The receptionist (Sophie) was helpful but unable to accept the card (for an unknown reason) so we asked if we could resolve it on checkout.  The next day a white Amarok Ute was parked in the access way from the parking lot - effectively preventing us from leaving. The Ute mysteriously moved into one of the many vacant parking lots as soon as payment was made (make from that what you will).

Anyway its not somewhere we will be staying again and I hope the owners adjust their attitude and allow the place to live up to its potential

After careful consideration I have decided to post a review, not wanting to ruin the business but at the same time to be fair to future visitors it is necessary.

The place is beautiful with a lake and vineyard just across from the our cottage plus the lovely farm animals roaming freely. Our favourite was Ozzie, the very friendly old dog.

Unfortunately our stay was marred by the management’s poor attitude to a mouse found in one of our bedrooms. They were rude and condescending. In the end the mouse was left in the room and my boys had to sleep in the hall.
So if you don’t mind sharing your cottage with a ‘harmless’ mouse quoting the manager then please go ahead.

Attitude

Firstly...the following comments didn’t take away from it being a good experience all in all. However...the cottage we stayed in and I know others who have stayed in different cottages...very run down however have a nice feel. 

Back half of cottage was sinking and there was mould in the bathroom. The cottage wasn’t serviced daily. All of these things are fine if we weren’t paying $400 or more a night. 

Grounds were nice. Owner was lovely. It’s Just important to know your paying a high price for cottages that are run down. 

Nice experience...high price 

We have enjoyed two nights in the 'School house' Cottage which simply wonderful. Even the rain did not dampen our stay. Seemed that when we wanted to go out, the rain stoped and visa versa :-)
The kitchen is well set up for cooing or reheating.Continental breakfast ws lovely...the bread to die for!!! Complementary bottle of wine was greatly appreciated.  The rooms, are very large and well appointed. TV works without issue and there are plenty of magazines. Wifi is faultless. Views over the dam and vineyard are just gorgeous. 
We loved our stay and look forward to returning in 2021.

Lovely stay in a delightful cottage.

It has been glorious staying here at Rose Cottage in Mayfield Vineyard. The cottage is spacious and very cosy and with a good kitchen for self catering.
Each morning we hear the guinea fowl filing past the kitchen window and see the resident peacock.
Kathy our host is delightful and their wines for tasting are amongst the best in Orange.
It is located about ten minutes from the centre of Orange nestled in the beautiful countryside.
Well worth a visit.

A weeks sojourn 

We received good service whilst staying here recently. The cottage was decorated in a warm and comfortable style. The kitchen was well stocked and the complementary  breakfast items and bottle of wine were appreciated.  Looking out over the vines and hearing the geese was very tranquil.  To maintain a high standard of accommodation we’d suggest that the bathroom and kitchen (particularly oven) are updated in the next few years. The addition of a bath would also be a great idea, if possible.

We had an average stay at Mayfield cottage - the vineyards around are amazing with beautiful outlooks; the cottage ... well, were do I start ...

The cottage itself (we stayed in the Overseers) is below average for the price we paid : the gas heater wasn't working in one of the rooms and 2 out of 4 single beds had their heating blankets not working. For being middle of July, that meant we were more cold than luke warm and ended up leaving early on our last day; keen to return to our warm home with a nice wood fire. The cottage is "rustic" in decoration which may be part of it's charm for some but the photos online versus the feel once you get there isn't the same. The bathroom is basic and could do with renovation. Similarly, kitchen drawers are about to fall apart.  Cleanliness is average, below standard if I consider what I'd expect for what we paid.

Overall, overpriced for what it is: $400 per night (as we had 3 kids <12yrs which you pay extra for). I would have expected up to $250-300 for the cottage now that we stayed at it. The pictures online made it look nicer than what is was (the cottage; not the location).

Note that when my son tried to ask for help on how to get the gas heater would work, he was just told it didn't work and that was that. We subsequently didn't even bother raising that the heating blankets weren't working either as they clearly aren't bothered. There are extra blankets in a box, the smell though will make you run a mile away. We put it back in the box, opened the windows for the air to clear (that's how bad it smelled of moth balls!). Oh, there are lots of DVD's in the cottage ... which are of no use as there is not  a DVD player!

On a plus note ... there was a nice bottle of wine on arrival - that was nice and well appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend the cottages - the owners need to reinvest in their look, feel and comfort if they want to ask the prices they  ask.

Amazing location - cottage below average

I loved the look of this place on the internet, the cottage looks very comfortable but it actually was not value for money at all. We paid what I think was a premium price for the 2 bed Rose Cottage but upon arrival the cottage was clearly very run down. For the price I would have expected a somewhat renovated bathroom but the shower was in very poor state and toilet really needs replacing as most of the time it didnt even flush properly and was stained. The kitchen also needs renovating and cupboards/amenities were barely still holding together and  appliances very basic. The TV just did not work at all as reception very poor, there were possums in the roof or walls that kept me awake for 2 of the 3 nights and the wicker furniture was not build for comfort, would have expected a comfortable lounge instead. Pretend fire not great as we were expecting a real fireplace. Beds comfortable and clean, bread, butter, jam and a bottle of wine a nice touch but didn't replace the downside. This place really needs a huge overhaul if owners keep expecting premium pricing. Oh and water from the tap was brown and no bottle water offered and we didn't even see anyone at the property at all to ask them to fix TV etc.

Lovely people but Rose Cottage very run down

I love giving properties a great review, this inst one of them. Have had an appalling experience so far with these guys. We booked to stay here for the Orange wine festival a  few friends having a weekend away. We booked then immediately one of our companions pulled out. Within minutes of booking, we requested a cancellation - took 1 week for them to get back to us, then told we couldn't we requested that we change the number of people on the booking as we were down 1. Told yes. Then the property charged the c/c for the full amount. We then tried to get back in touch to advise,that hey had overcharged us,  took another 3 days for them to get back to us. We were told that n o one at the property told us we could reduce the number of guests on our booking  and too bad, we wouldn't be getting a refund. When we pointed out that this wasn't very professional, Kathy hung up on us. Next, we contacted booking.com to try and negotiate something - and then the director of the property contacted us and threatened us with legal action if we were to give an honest review the service we had received thus far.... we are not hopeful
