In a jungle hostel I did not expect to be 5m from the road, woken up multiple times every night by trucks and busses. The cold pool looks good but the hot tub is only just warm with broken jets. My girlfriend received a shock from our electric shower which spat water out like an acupuncture session. The food was bland and expensive (2-3 times the price of comparative Ecuadorian meals). I had to ask for more before I started, the portion was so miserly. The atmosphere of the hostel is nice and we had fun at kareoke and the employees are pleasant, but I would not stay here again.

Broken sleep and poor food

Love it, love it, love it! You are one with nature, far away from the busy city. The food and drinks are delicious, the staff is super friendly, and the accommodations are unique. If you have some time, visit the locals on the boat tour. You will go back to basics and get a great idea of their community.

In the middle of the Amazone

+the room was clean +there was purified water that you could fill up + wifi did almost everywhere in the area + the pool was nice +/- the food was good but also had a rather high price +/- our room was cool, very close to the river, there was practically only river and animal noise.

That's very nice.

The grounds itself and rooms were beautiful and well maintained.  Located between Tena and Misahualli you are surrounded by the jungle, just off a road (so no off-roading needed to get here).  The property is serene and beautiful and right off the Napo River.  There is also a stairway to get down to the river where you can spend some mornings for some quiet time with Mamapacha

The wifi all throughout the property is strong and I had no problem getting signal whether I was in my room or the wellness & pool area.  

The not-so-great part is that the information on the Selina website is outdated as well as the information provided if you use booking.com.  Firstly the Whatsapp number for reception is +593 98 924 9559 NOT the one listed on the site.  I reached out to this number and via email before I arrived so that I could get more information and I found that they were not super responsive.  So this was a bit frustrating.  

There is a separate Group Whatsapp number which they will provide you after you've checked in as a guest where they make announcements and you can ask questions.  There is no daily yoga offered as specified on the site and some of the other services listed are not actually available.  The tour information listed is a bit outdated as well.  They do offer evening activities at 8pm every night including karaoke, bingo, trivia, movie night, and community dance.  There is also massage and facial services offered on site, which you can book with reception.  In the wellness area, there are. yoga mats available if you wish to do some yoga on your own or turn on a Youtube video.  There are also hammocks to lay out and swing.  

The pool area is a nice touch but it was pouring rain the entire time so entirely I didn't have a chance to use the pool or jacuzzi.  The jacuzzi was only warm however.  

The staff is kind and helpful, if your spanish is not great - some staff members speak more fluent english than others.  However it is best if you know at least some spanish to communicate more easily.  

Tours can be booked on site, but it's not worth it to try and book too far in advance.  Due to weather or other conditions, tours may be canceled (ie. Jumandy Cave tours was canceled the morning of the tour due to heavy rains which would have made the conditions dangerous).  As a solo traveler, it can be a bit frustrating because there is a minimum of 2 people for a tour - however it is possible to pay an extra $10 if there is no one else going. 
 Otherwise try to make some friends with other guests and see if anyone else is interested.  I found there were quite a few groups with pre-booked private tours but luckily I met a couple of other solo travelers and we went on some tours together.   All their tours are with the company Grand Selva - I went on the Half Day Amazoonico tour, Daytime Jungle Hike and Nighttime Jungle Hike.  The Night Jungle Hike was just ok, I enjoyed the other two.  

The restaurant itself has tasty food, yes more expensive than local restaurants but this is to be expected at a higher-end hotel that is not centrally located.  Food is prepared pretty quickly and you generally get it within 15 minutes.  The bar also serves cocktails, some of which may or may not be available depending on ingredients.  The primary bartender / reception was Judy and she is the SWEETEST.  Super enthusiastic and just adorable.  

Payments for food, drinks and tours can be made in cash or credit card.  They may not always have change available so if try to bring small bills if you can.  Credit card machines are located on the second floor where the library is so it is a bit cumbersome for the staff to go back and forth, try to bundle up all your charges so they can do it once and save them some climbs.  

Trips to Tena are $10 and they can arrange a taxi for you.  Not much to see or do in Tena but if you need to buy some food or want to try a local restaurant the prices are cheaper.  To get back, just go to the bus terminal and there will be a line of taxis waiting.  We had no problem with price for a random taxi and they did not try to increase the rate, it was the $10 as expected.  

They can also help you book a shuttle back to Quito - $25 cash to the driver for a shared taxi (this is a regular sized car which you will share with other passengers - locals or tourists.  Full car of 4 passengers + driver) or a private transfer for $120 I believe.  The drive is approximately 4 hours with 1-2 stops along the way and door to door service is provided.  The other passengers were all heading to North Quito whereas I was going to the Centro Historico so the driver called up one of his friends to pick me up and take me to my destination for no additional charge.  

All in all, I would recommend Selina Amazon Tena.  Just manage your expectations on what services are available because the website is not correct and that led to some frustration with several other guests as well.  Central Selina office should correct this information as I don't believe it is  managed by Selina Amazon Tena directly.  


Finally a detailed review!!

It was a beautiful place and the common areas were very excellent as it was for my whole family, the swimming pool is very large, very nice. In a very varied dining options they also have a children's menu because I liked that.

Family experience.

I went with a few friends to discover what the Amazon is and I discovered the Selina Tena, it was a quiet place, they had activities to do, we joined a tour that was for the community that was excellent and we could get to know a little more about the Kichwa Culture.

The room was very nice, very well-arranged, clean and had a good view, as the river could be observed up close.

The best place to be.

A very good location to disconnect from the conventional, a place near the river that gives a unique feeling to relax☺ the restaurant with various food options...me enchanting the selina burger delicious dish.

An experience amidst the jungle and spa.

I really like the location, very good attention and the delicious food has very amazing staff, who make you feel at home, sharing experiences of la.locality and the very comfortable room.

The hotel is situated next to the Napo river, it is a relaxing, behaviour-friendly atmosphere that gives a rustic appearance with a cabin.

It's a very warm room with a big bathroom. The premises are nice. Only the back entrance should be cleaned up. The food was very good, the drinks too. The pool was also clean.
