Hôtel Restaurant Le Périgord

Don't let the title of the review fool you- I don't mean that in a bad way. Four friends rented a holiday house in Maurs earlier this year. Whilst investigating the town, we found the Hotel le Perigord and stopped in for a drink. They had the usual Pelforth and Jupiler beers on, as well as an interesting German beer. We noted their restaurant was open to non-residents (closed Sunday evenings and Mondays) and decided to eat there later in the week. When we went, the staff were very friendly, helpful and patient with our rusty French. They use ingredients bought fresh each day, so there was a hand-written menu with a choice of 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts. There was a simple selection of wines to choose from too. The prices were very reasonable and the service great. The decor was very old-fashioned but welcoming and comfortable. After the meal, we took drinks through to the bar where the staff showed us a big local map on the wall and gave suggestions for places to visit. We enjoyed the evening so much, we went back for dinner again later in the week - a new hand written menu and the food was just as good. Definitely recommended.
