rather filthy place where i stayed at during my Kumano Kodo hike. they need urgently to replace carpets and uplift the place Price/value is not at all ok at that place - it was the most expensive accommodation i had during those 5 nights but it‘s not worth it. Btw: same goes for the food. was nothing special and as you eat in your room by yourself you can‘t even ask when you have questions.

Excellent stay after Kumano Kodo hiking. Futon very comfortable. They helped in transporting lugages to room. Excellent, plenty, very tasty dinner, also breakfast. I forgot a fleece jacket, they contacted our travel agent in Athens to find me, they sent it next day to my Osaka hotel (with very reasonable courier cost). Fleece was nicely packed with a complimentary card included. Thank you for hospitality, very friendly personnel.

Excellent stay after hiking Kumano Kodo

Stayed one night as part of our Kumano Kodo trek and it was great. The inn is essentially several houses connected together over the years, and history shows. We were in the “newer” wing, largish room with a great view facing the river. Kaiseki dinner excellent as expected - they happily accommodated our request for vegetarian / pescatarian meals (let them know when booking). 
Japanese hospitality at it’s finest! Splurge for one night. 

Likely the top ryokan in Yunomine, certainly the most established.

Adumaya Ryokan shows its incredible age, but our room was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly. Meals were excellent, though they were a bit hard pressed to fully accommodate the vegetarian in our party since certain dishes always contained dashi. Turned out he had enough wonderful vegetarian food to eat, and the others in the party got to eat additional non-vegetarian servings as they felt obligated to serve everyone the same number of items.

Historical Ryokan

Firstly you have to find Yunomine onsen a charming typical small village in Kumano Kodo. A good GPS will lead you there. The ryokan is old few people speak English if you can have the large suite overlooking Main Street with private onsen and a personal dining room and a balcony you’ll be more than happy and comfortable Japanese style of course. Beyond that and very friendly personnel is the food. I was served a more than twelve course dinner plus a similar Japanese breakfast absolutely outstanding in taste and presentation by far my best Japanese meals in Japan. If you want a real test of Japan you have to go to Ryokan Adumaya.

More than charming outstanding cuisine

The treatment received upon arrival corresponds to the deserved rest of the hiker.We were served dinner in the room and while we went down al onsen, traditional and super pleasant, we were prepared the futones.

i stayed Ryokan Adumaya 1 night with my mother. It was real excellent experience with traditional house. My mother like dinner with many Japan's food and relax osen, too.
Highly recommend with family.

N33°49.695' E135°45.453' In this 1800-year-old onsen town near Hongū, the main attraction is Tsuboyu, the only hot spring in Japan that is registered on the UNESCO World HeritageList. In the middle of Yunomine, Tsuboyu is located in a small wooden hut built on an island in the narrow stream that runs through the town. Besides Tsuboyu, Yunomine has a sentō (public bath) with two baths for day visitors. 

Only Ryokan Adumaya offers an English website and responded to our e-mail request for a room in Yunomine. The other minshuku’s and ryokans only accept requests by telephone in the Japanese language. Alternative, the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau offers maps and booking service for a commission fee. We booked the room directly with Ryokan Adumaya by e-mail, saving commission. 

The ryokan consists of three connected buildings and a hot spring (onsen) building with indoor and outdoor baths (not unisex). The view from our room "Sedan" in March 2018 was beautiful: a cherry blossom tree in full bloom. This Japanese-style room, 6 tatami-sized, had air conditioner, heating, television, fridge, room save, private toilet and sink. The Wi-Fi reception was excellent. 

Our room did not have a private bathroom. Not necessary, because every guest will stay in this ryokan to enjoy the excellent and healthy onsen inside and outside. Few rooms have their own private bathroom, but why use it? In March 2018, we paid for the room including breakfast and free use of the onsen ¥22980 per night. 

The main attraction of this hotel are the hot springs, which are open all day. Just put on the supplied yukata and walk to the onsen. At 6am, we went to the onsen for total cleaning and relaxation and afterwards a server in traditional clothing served a delightful Japanese breakfast in one of the private dining rooms. What an experience! The breakfast was out of this world. After returning to our room, the bedding was stowed away a thermos with coffee was waiting. In view of the cherry blossom tree in full bloom, it was the best coffee experience we have ever had.   

Staff members were extremely polite. They spoke a few words English and are used to foreign guests. They translated all signs and instructions in English. Upon arrival, the hotel manager has painted your name next to the entrance of the hotel. Staff understand the unspoken needs of hotel guests. When we found our pillow too hard to sleep, so we took our own inflatable pillow. Without asking the next morning, staff had placed a softer pillow in the room. Very thoughtful of them.

Ryokan Adumaya-so offers a special experience of Japanese hospitality in a beautiful hot spring town. The room was great, the service impeccable and the breakfast was indescribable good. Very recommended.

Excellent ryokan with nice hot springs and a great breakfast

My partner and I stayed here during our Kumano Kodo hike for 1 night, in a traditional room. Our room was on the top floor up a rickety stair case. The view from our room had a very quaint nostalgic feel, much like the rest of this well loved Ryokan, overlooking the smaller roofs in the area and the mountains surrounding Yunomine. The food was served in a private dining room and was absolutely superb, with the customary 100 dishes of local delicacies. 

Lastly the onsen was very very hot and I lasted all of 2minutes and came out pink...so I spent more time in the sauna to ‘cool down’. The onsen is pretty big although I was alone for the most part.

While it’s a bit pricey, if you’re after something from what feels like the heyday of traditional Ryokans, I would definitely recommend this place.

Quaint Ryokan with old school feel

Situated in Yunomine Onsen (Japan's oldest hot springs), on the path of Kumano Kodo (Ancient Trail), this is a Japanese traditional Ryokan.  André Malraux, a French novelist, called it is 'The Inn of Japan'.  You can enjoy indoor and outdoor natural hot spring baths in the tranquility of nature.  After you soak up relaxing hot spring, you can enjoy local cuisine with ingredients prepared from surrounding mountains and rivers utilizing the hot springs.  They provide Yukata (traditional bath robe) and bath towel in the room.
