The Lek Aree 

The room was large and tastefully decorated for a modest price. Really gorgeous, beautifully maintained colonial villa in a great neighbourhood. Aree has a lot of cool bars, restaurants and cafes and is a very humanly scaled area in Bangkok. We were received by an English speaking receptionist who was exceedingly helpful about restaurants still open following our late night arrival. Not everything was faultless though. Be warned that they only look at special requests on the day of the actual booking. I booked three months in advance on Agoda and requested a ground floor room (there is no lift) because I am disabled. Eight hours before my planned arrival I was informed that only a room two flights up was available and offered a cancellation at no charge during high season. Yeah, thanks. If you don’t have special requests there shouldn’t be any problems. On the morning of our departure we discovered that breakfast was just adequate, consisting of toast, fried eggs stuck to the pan, cold cereal. For Asians there was instant pot noodles. The lovely English speaking receptionist was off duty. The morning staff who spoke Thai only did phone the English speaking receptionist at home to help us book a taxi.
