We had done booking of Yin Yang hotel in Chiang Mai through Booking dot com and it was confirmed. When we reached the lady at reception claimed they never got confirmation while we showed her email. Booking support in Thailand was poor so we had to move other hotel. After following up with the portal team when we came back to India it was concluded that hotel had cancelled it because of overbooking. Doesn't matter to a customer. In this case both Yin Yang hotel staff and Booking dot com ruined our day-1 in Chiang Mai. We paid more and stayed in below average hotel nearby.

Very unreliable hotel - They cancel your bookings & then blame portals like Booking.com

I have fond memories of my time here. It's close to everything, really friendly owners and staff. They arranged a rental car for our trip and it was done on very short notice. I would recommend this place to anyone as it's centrally located and the rooms are clean and quiet.

Great spot

I give this place five stars because of the genuine staff members and owner. We had a scare because of two tiny bugs that turn out to be bamboo bugs and the owner was so quick to investigate and offered us a new room if we weren't satisfied or even if we felt like we would just be too nervous. Centrally located walked to everything temples food and night markets. A little hard to find. There was also a lot of construction and remodeling going on, so there was a bit of stuff other people would be picky about. The only thing I was sad about is the pool was closed. They also have a restaurant but it is around the corner a bit. Overall satisfied with our stay. We rented the family room had three beds sitting area fridge tv private bathroom private balcony and air conditioning. Cleaned everyday by staff and replenished with fresh towels toilet paper and water. 

Quiet place in chiang mai 

The guesthouse itself it is not that bad, simple construction but pretty clean room and well located inside the Old Town's wall. 
Anyway during our stay they did construction works everyday starting at 07.00am because they were expandings and at a certain point we have almost found no wall close to the bathroom.

unpleasant surprise

Thanks to a delayed flight we missed the regular check in hours. When we arrived we found a nice hand written note telling us that they apologized for not being able to welcome us but that our room was ready and we could check in any time the next day. Our room was very spacious. We peeked in a couple of the windows of unoccupied rooms and from the looks of it, the double occupancy rooms were just as big as the rooms that had bunk beds in them. The guesthouse provided us with towels and soap. They came in every day and cleaned up, topped up the toilet paper, and emptied garbages. Unlike a regular hotel, they didn't touch the bed (which was good because we are slobs and left our stuff everywhere). By the second day of our stay we needed to do laundry. We were able to bring a bag of everything we wanted to wash to the front desk. They took it to the laundry places and only charged us upon return. There was a mixup and some of our clothes got lost in the shuffle. They did everything in their power to get our clothes back, AND THEY DID! The staff was knowledgable and spoke English, French, and Thai (among others, I'm sure). The front desk was filled with brochures of things to do while in Chiang Mai and a cute book filled with the staff's favourites was even in the room for us to look at. They provided great maps of the area and made exploring easy. The hangout room was nothing special but they had a great deck space on the second floor that overlooked the alley and the street outside. Our flight leaving Chiang Mai was late in the day so they allowed us to put our bags in storage. They even took a delivery for us while we were already checked out. Overall the staff was the highlight of the stay.
On top of the excellent staff and accommodations, the Yin Yang Guesthouse was located just inside of the old city. We were steps away from bars in every direction and every type of food we could want. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
On the first night we found a spider in our room, not much that can be done about something like that when you have a terrace and the doors don't have sweeps on them. The shower situation was a bit weird, but it's common to see the shower head simply placed in the bathroom in Thailand instead of in it's own separate stall. Make sure to take the toilet paper out of the bathroom before you shower and you won't have a problem.
