We've spent four nights here, unfortunately, already booking in advance. Staff are relatively friendly and helpful, although often uncomfortable and mentally absent. Rooms were perfectly in order for the price. There are mattresses on the floor. Nice clean atmosphere, good breakfast. BUT: bathrooms catastrophic, stubborn dirt everywhere. Destroyed or just ancient.

Lack of hygiene

We were planning to have a Christmas Trip in Chiang Mai, and we found this hostel. Pictures look nice, but once there everything is different. I am sorry to say it is not a healthy place where to stay. Toilets and showers are extremely dirty and smelly. You can see some green areas all over the walls, and the humidity smell is horrible. Special mention to the Noise, which is the worst thing in this place, as it is made of wood, but normally, 95 per cent of people are not considerate on how to walk, despite all the images you can see on the walls. It is mandatory to take your shoes off, which is a pretty nice tradition, but as mentioned before, most of people do not care at all, as they probably think this is la la land. The worst is that the owner or receptionists do not tell off about it, even if you mention it to them. So, I am sorry to say it has been pretty much a very negative experience that's why I am leaving this score.

Dirty, smelly and extremely noisy

I was really worried when booking it but Bann Elephant Home showed up as a nice place, close to everything in Chiang Mai with lovely owner who was really helpful. We stayed for six nights, had one room and one bed in dorm. For that budget we had it was great except the thing that the building is wooden and walls and ceilings are wooden and everything literally everything is audible, even when somebody open their suitcase you can hear it as it is in your room. I have a suspiction that they do not change bed sheets in dorm but it's only suspiction I don't have anything to prove it. Over all if you're good sleeper and you need something on budget this is your place.

Everything just great except noise

Three very pleasant nights stay, and for a small sum: 380 baht a night for two people in a double room. Well, at this price, don't expect a big luxury but it's quite enough to spend the night at a lower cost, in a room with a bed, a fan, and that's it. The common toilets and bathrooms would deserve to be a little cleaner, and a shower had no hot water. But besides that the managers are super friendly, very helpful, welcoming and warm.

A stop for the rooster

Nice experience, cheap hostel, clean, comfortable and its host is very friendly.On entering you should leave your shoes and go in stockings throughout the hostel.The bathrooms are clean and have hot water.The downside is that there are only 4 men's and women's bathrooms throughout the hostel.But it is recommended.

Comfortable, cheap and simple hostel.

I stayed in a private room, the first night I didn't get to sleep till 3 in the morning, the walls are so thin I could hear a snorer next door, someone else hawking up their flem, the people above, even if they walk gently will still reverberate through the room as they are walking. I also found BED BUGS crawling on the other mattress, but as it was two twin mattresses I was able to move this far away from the one I was sleeping on. 

When I approached reception the next morning, I tried to tactfully raise the issue of the bed bugs but she was feigning understanding English and replied that she was too busy. Even when I brought the tissue with the bugs on, she casually folded the tissue, placed it to the side and apologised. Nothing has been done. 

The room was spacious and I was able to sleep better the next night reassured there were no bugs in the mattress I was sleeping on. The room is very dark even with all the lights on due to the dark decor. Bad decision on interior colours.

The shower is in the wrong place and makes it difficult to wash your hair and soaks everything, the water even went into the bedroom from under the door. Makes using the toilet later not such a pleasant one.

No towel or soap is provided and as talking to the staff is like pulling teeth it wasn't worth asking for one. 

This place is very overpriced and you get nothing for what you pay for. 

The location is reasonably ok but there are much better and cheaper places to stay. On my way home one night I saw a few rats just 2 metres away from the hostel kitchen.

Find another - there are BED BUGS. Staff do not care.

We stayed here for 7 nights and absolutely loved it. It was a home away from home. We had our own room with fantastic air conditioning, really comfortable beds and pillows.
The place is quirky and very relaxed with excellent breakfast too. The shower in the evening would sometimes be cold but you would get hot water in the mornings.
Would definitely stay here again! 

Simply Lovely

We spent two nights at Elephant Home, and the hostel was really nice and personal, and we paid on the spot, but we got the same amount withdrawn from the credit card!

Wow, that's great.

Honey, we were disappointed at several points during our stay at the elephant ban. Our room already smelled very strongly of feet. Horrible. The walls are not airtight to the noise so we could hear everything in the neighbors... The toilets were very often dirty and the water pressure was minimal... The coffee we could have from 7:30 was often late... otherwise the setting is nice and it's not far from the center. The staff are still there and listening.
