We chose this hostel based on price and location. The location was perfect - we were in Chiang Mai for Songkran and were in the thick of it. The shared spaces are nice and the front opens out completely so it feels chilled. There are a lot of Mosquitos here though, so beware!
Atmosphere wasn't great, you'd have to look elsewhere for a party. Clean enough, although one of toilets was blocked for a day or so. 
The staff were friendly and helpful.

Cheap, good location

Ping Ping, the young owner, was very kind to us, and we'd like to come back. Only complaints are the air conditioning not effectively cooling down the room, and sometimes the shower faucet is not strong, so you get a weak shower (family room). Very nice, roomy place to stay, has a trinkling water garden in the entrance, very kind staff, and out of the way quiet place. Highly recommended! - Avery

Breakfast is only bread and instant coffee.
After. Wash the dishes yourself.
Staff of this hotel is Chinese, Not a Thai.
The rooms are clean because the cleaning staff of Thai.
This Hotel entrance is locked at 11 pm.

Cheap guesthouses

The staff are very nice and the place has potential. Too bad it was infested with mosquitoes. I have never seen so many. They were covering the walls and swarming the bathrooms. Also the location is kinda far from where you want to be. You can do much better and stay somewhere in old town.

This place was definitely created to serve Chinese tourists since the staff mostly spoke Chinese and some of their tour booking services were offered in Chinese. There were some moments of communication awkwardness since most staff spoke little English or not even much Thai (Except the boss), but they were very helpful in helping me with what I needed. Like they called for an early morning tuktuk the night before my morning flight. Some even took me out to eat the hostel's favorite - pork feet at the North side of old town and paid for my food and transport. Also, on the night I arrived they gave me a private AC room (though I booked a dorm) because all the dorms were full that night. That was the only time in all my travels that I was given an upgrade due to overcrowding instead of a downgrade. That means they didn't pressure the person who took my place to get a private room instead of a dorm, they just let me benefit from having one of the open private rooms. :) 

In short, this place offers a nice, though occasionally communication-baffling experience for people who don't speak Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese, I'm not sure which they spoke). They staff is kind enough to help though.
