Awful service. I should have known from the moment I called ahead to book a table for dinner. Turns out I was speaking to the Hotel Manager who was very abrupt and rude on the phone. When we arrived and met in person he was no different.
Food service was slow. Had to send my main back as the mashed potato was stone cold - the whiskey sauce had formed a skin over the top. My wife’s pasta was undercooked and practically inedible. Ordered teas and coffees and waited c. 20 minutes and had to leave as a no show.
Room was basic and damaged door units that looked to have been damaged for some time.
Water in shower never achieved temp - stone cold.
Would personally avoid.

Pro: The location was fabulous and the food was more than excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient. There was a "convenience" store on the other side of the parking lot and it is right across from a beautiful loch view.

Con: It was noisy and they beds were not the most comfortable.

I'd probably still go back just for the location and food.

Excellent food and Stellar View

Great stay, yet expensive. Read some reviews that were not that candid with the hotel but for me the property was very nice with enough amenities for a short and comfortable stay. 

Pros: 
- Comfortable room, good size 
- Good service overall
- The food is very good, nice choices for breakfast 
- Gateway to Skye 
- Excellent decor, full of carpet flooring

Fine accommodation!

Very friendly staff however the room was rather dirty with the plaster on the bathroom walls falling off, stained towels and bed sheets. The food was tasty although a touch on the expensive side. Definitely did not feel like a 4 star experience. 

Great staff poor hotel.

Staying nearby we booked this restaurant for a Monday night. Staff were excellent as was the food and the ambience. We ate Ham hock and parsley terrine and chicken liver parfait, followed by Balmacara beef burger with chips and chicken stuffed with haggis, colcannon potato and whiskey sauce. 
We couldn't fault the experience and highly recommend, though booking was advised as they do cater for larger parties.

Balmacara A la Carte Dinner

We stayed here for 3 nights, a long weekend.  The staff were very friendly and welcoming, gorgeous decor throughout. 

The best but has to be the food, great breakfast and dinner.  Hubby commented that the burger was the best he'd ever had!

Nice bar just behind reception and then another bar that had a pool table (free play), 2 dart boards and a TV for those that want to watch sport.

Great welcome, perfect location

The hotel is well maintained and the staff is very friendly and attentive.The hotel's restaurant is also very good and with good service.But the best thing about this hotel is its location, a few minutes from the magnificent Eilea Donan Castle on one side, and on the other quite close to the bridge that leads to the beautiful island of Skye.A walk by the lake (actually it is an entrance to the sea) offers a great peace.Along with the hotel there is a supermarket with everything you need if you want to picnic along the route.The room was quite large, with a large and comfortable bed.

Hotel in a beautiful location

Excellent hotel!  My husband and I had a fabulous time in the hotel. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The hotel decor is lovely. Everywhere is beautifully clean. The room we had was excellent. It was a great size, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. There is a great selection on the breakfast menu. There is  a good selection on the menu for evening meal. also. There is a choice of two bars to sit in in the evening. Absolutely beautiful views from the breakfast restaurant. 
Excellent location to allow you to explore. The hotel is located minutes drive from Eilean Donan Castle.  We drove to Skye to visit the Fairy pools in approximately 45mins. 
Would definitely recommend this hotel. I have nothing negative to say about this hotel. Thank you for a wonderful break.

Couldn't ask for better!! Excellent hotel.

Great hosts, food was very good and a good selection of beers/spirits etc.
Was actually staying due to work but would love to come back with my partner and use it as a base to explore the local area.
Rooms were clean and tidy, my mattress was a little soft for my taste/back but the majority of my group didn’t have this issue.

Great little hotel

My wife and I decided on a short break between Christmas and New year, we love the west coast of Scotland, so settled on this hotel.

I would describe the hotel as well used, but it is clean and well appointed. The rooms were nice, with a comfy bed and a large walk in shower which I personally prefer. 

We ate in the hotel one night and the food was good, however the menu was very limited, but we were told this was the case before we ordered, due to the time of year. There was a good bar too. 

Breakfast was good with a good selection of cereal, cheese & meats as well as cooked breakfast to order. The quality was good, the haggis and black pudding were amazing, however, a little disappointed not to find porridge on the menu in Scotland! 

During our stay it came to our attention that there wasn’t a lot of staff and after a discussion with a staff member we discovered that there was only four staff members in total and the hotel was due to close at the end of the week until the new year.
With that in mind, I think it’s fair to say the guys were doing a terrific job, especially the two guys who were front of house all of the time. Day and night, yes there might have been a bit of a wait for food or drinks on the bar, but we weren’t in a hurry and given that the hotel was full and the staffing situation, if that’s the worst thing….. I’d suggest in high season this wouldn’t be an issue.
