Visited mid-week and it has a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff.
Food was well present and tasted great, the desserts where just amazing.
Great value  for money and will be definitely be going back.
Very clean and well laid out tables.

Fantastic food

Excellent Sunday lunch definitely a plate full excellent selection of vegetables 
Good selection of meats and could even have two meats if required 
lovely big Yorkshire puddings  and as much gravy as we wanted. 
Didn’t have enough room for pudding

Excellent Sunday lunch

Food was fantastic, especially the beef! Really well cooked. You could taste the local fresh vegetables, so much flavour! Kids really enjoyed too. Had sticky toffee pudding and custard for afterwards, perfect for a cold February Sunday afternoon

Sunday Roast with the family

We were staying nearby and decided to climb up the steep road to The Lion Hotel one hot evening. Arriving exhausted we were quickly shown a table and were surprised to find we were almost the only diners but it was mid week. The staff were friendly and welcoming and it was lovely to see them all taking time to make a fuss of an elderly regular ( I assume). The owner/ chef came out and offered us a freshly made vegetarian dish which wasn't on the menu. As 3 of us don't eat meat that was most welcome and proved delicious. The other meals were fantastic as well and it was worth the climb there. We returned the next night on a Thursday but sadly they were full so it does pay to book ahead. If we are ever in the area again this is a pub we will most definitely revisit . Also their puppy is adorable!

Wish it was our local!

Stopped for lunch on a baking hot day . Only one table with shade at back of the pub which was taken 
Again only one of the four tables at the front had a parasol ,the two men sat on it weren’t drinking so we hoped they maybe moving soon 
We had ordered drinks whilst walking through the pub .  
My husband asked if he could try the New cider . The cheerful guy serving  said of course  having decided it was delicious he ordered some 
We ordered our food  outside 
 a sausage sandwich and cheesy chips 
In the meantime the guys had left the other table and we moved to have some shaded 
30 mins later we are wondering where the food is. Our drinks have long go in the near 30 degree heat 
Just after that someone comes outside and having stopped us rushes back in 
Our food arrived a little after this  
I asked for crispy chips but everything was cremated.  
My chips were swimming in grease and soft.   No mean feat for a brunt chip 
I have this horrid feeling they thought we had left without  paying  and when they noticed we had not it was all warmed up again 
Indifferent service from the girl serving.  We asked for salt and ketchup  which I had to go in and get myself after 10 mins.  She declared she would have brought them with the drinks 
Just as we had decided to go into pub to pay.  The bar guy came out  and my husband went in to pay 
When I asked had he complained 
He said the guy was so cheerful he couldn’t.    Men !

I would have loved this to be a positive review but

Restaurant. Waitress with the strapped up right arm needs to go to charm school! Table booked for 7. At 7.10 we were effectively told to hurry up and order! Never ever had such rude service. Average food only. Never going back!

Dreadfully rude staff other than the young waitress. Poor food too!

Had another really good meal at The Lion.  I settled on the fish and chips, the fish was hake, the batter was very light and crispy, served with chunky chips and a really good 'mushy peas' which were pureed garden peas.  My partner had the pork fillet followed by the creme brulee.  All excellent.  The staff were friendly and efficient.

Great food

We stayed a couple of nights in the local area, and The Lion Inn was on the list of recommended places for an evening meal. There are a number of local similar pubs in the area, and being the holiday season, they are all busy, so never assume there will be empty table. 
As we didn’t pre-book, we arrived at 18:30 before the busy period. There is a general bar area and adjacent restaurant and we were shown a table by very friendly and helpful bar staff. 
In addition to a comprehensive menu, there was a special Thursday steak night offer for £30 which included a bottle of wine, which was a very good offer, so we had a sirloin steak each, both cooked differently, and they arrived exactly as requested. Steaks were served with excellent chips, mushroom selection, well-seasoned tomato and spinach, with a home-made pepper sauce. I like my meals hot, and served on a heated plate, which doesn’t seem unreasonable, but isn’t always achieved. However, all the food was piping hot, in addition to being very well cooked.
An excellent meal, with friendly and helpful staff which we would certainly recommend.
I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the gent’s toilet area, which is always a good indicator of a business in my opinion.

Excellent service and meal

Was greeted by a waitress outside smoking and complaining she’d “been on since 10 this morning”   The service was awful, the staff were loud and impolite. The food was ok , but what was supposed to be a nice meal with friends turned out to be a disappointment. Avoid this place !

Worse experience at a restaurant I've had in a long time. Meals were all mixed up and got all the steaks wrong the steak meat itself was cheap and greasy, really not great at all. No one asked if the meal was okay or offered desserts once we finsihed eating. Also the staff were anything but sincier to the fact the food was unsatisfactory. All the staff were rude and had no customer service skills what so ever. I expect much more from local restaurants and buisness from around the area expecially for the price. A real unsatisfactory meal and experience.
