Oh So Indie House Hostel

This hostel has single rooms and a good location, making it a great place to stay in Moscow.  The biggest issue I had was with finding the hostel, as there are no signs to figure it out and often times no one at reception to let you in.  Thus so, I would say get in contact with them prior to going and they can probably meet you outside and check you in.  Otherwise the hostel is in a great location, easy walking distance to the metro and red square.  It is relatively clean, the bathrooms could use a bit more, but other than that it was a really nice place to stay.

Good location

Nice Hostel right in the Centre. Close to Arbat street, but located on silent street Povarskaya.
Good staff, comfortable beds even in 16 pers. dorm. Amazing architecture.
They are going to renovate bathroom - it'll make this place even better.

Cozy hostel

We spent three days in this hostel. There is not much interaction between guests but it is in a great location, ten minutes by walk from the red square.
The hostel has internet and a kitchen so you can cook your own food.
Breakfast is not provided

Nice location and good price

Oh, so Indie cannot strictly be called a backpackers hostel as there are a couple of residents living there permanently, but that does not interfere much with the backpackers’ life at the hostel.
As we stayed in a private room, it is not possible for us to describe life in the dorms. The room was sparkling white, extremely clean linen and towels. The Kitchen was provided with a gas stove, crockery, pots and pans, allowing you to cook the most elaborate meals. Bathrooms and Toilets are clean and maintained in hygienic conditions. Free tea, coffee, sugar is provided at all times, It was nice when Anna, who on one occasion brought large packets of cookies free of cost. That was a touching gesture. The most magnificent area of the hostel is however, the Lounge which is spacious, clean, full of light. The Lounge has a piano that beckons you to play a tune, the couch a really big affair full of trendy cushions invites you for a snooze, a nap if you wish to relax and unwind. There are two computers solely for the use of the hostel inmates as well as free Wi-Fi.
But what makes Oh so Indie special are the people who run it, Alexandra went out of her way to make our stay special and comfortable, she was a joyous person moving from task to task, bubbling with happiness. Alexa even went to the extent of dropping us to our cab and helping us with our luggage. Then Tejas and Anna, sharing their experiences of their India trip with us. Our Breakfast was full of shared experiences, laughter and plans.
Oh, so Indie is located close to the Arbat Street which is the most happening place in Moscow. Relatively cheap meals can be had at My-My Restaurant, you can exchange money at the various Bureau de Change. A Hypermarket located very close to the Hostel provides you with all the groceries and necessities. You can walk to the Kremlin, a small Russian Orthodox Church, the Church of St. Simon is just across the Hostel.
However there is one aspect that baffles me, the Russian Authorities expect the Hostel to register a foreigner if he is staying in Russia for more than a week, which we did. We were charged a sum of 750 Roubles per person. When we registered at the Hostel at St. Petersbursg the registration cost us just  Roubles 150.

Excellent Location

We got the private room with bathroom. The bathroom is nice and spacious but the bedroom is tiny with no window.

On our first night the hostel double booked our room so we had to use the shared bathroom. They tried to make us feel better by offering us a 'discount' which was actually just the price of the new room (quite insulting). We did receive a very small real discount upon request.

The reception is not actually 24 hours a day and is occasionally attended by someone who can't speak English and is disinterested in customer service. 

From 7am to 11pm the entrance is tucked away behind the building, which is scary and inconvenient if you are security conscious.
